There is a select group of individuals who enjoy getting their food from the ocean. If you are one of these individuals it is your responsibility to have the proper license and be familiar with the local fish and game rules. The local fish and game laws are designed with the game fish in mind. These laws take into account reproductive habits and ensure the future survival of the species.
Take what only you will eat. Avoid hunting in areas where sight seeing is occurring. As an underwater hunter, you have the unique understanding of your effect on the environment. Be a role model for your fellow hunters.
Gun Length:
The shorter the overall length of the gun, the more maneuverable it will be in tight spaces. These are excellent for working around rocky reefs and in kelp forests. These environments have restricted mobility and a quick reaction time in aiming and firing is critical for a successful shot.
Longer guns are usually associated with open water where there is more space to move in. The fish are generally larger and faster moving. There is usually more space/distance between the hunter and the fish. The longer the gun, the more bands and power are available and therefore, the gun has a further range.
Number of Bands:
The more bands a gun has, the more variance in power it has. If a multi-banded gun is loaded with only one or two bands, it will have less power, range and striking power but will have an effective hitting power when it hits a close up target. For more range and hitting power, more bands are used. This means that the shaft has good speed, range and stopping power. Shorter guns that have multiple bands are good for a variety of conditions
